Caribbean Spring Getaway at Sea March 21-28, 2027

Come join the UW-Whitewater community, alumni, and friends for an unforgettable 7-night Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas. Departing from Miami, Florida on March 21st, this exclusive sailing offers the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and connection as we visit Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and the Dominican Republic.

This cruise offers a great opportunity to connect with fellow Warhawks, network, and reminisce about your time in Whitewater. We will also have a group coordinator onboard to facilitate activities for everyone! This cruise is the perfect fit for any age, whether you are a recent college graduate, family looking to get away, or a seasoned cruiser.

All staterooms in our group will have access to our onboard group events! We plan to have a group gathering every day in the cruise and an optional group shore excursion.

ITINERARY AND DESTINATIONS

Day 1 - March 21st: Miami, Florida

 Ship Embarks by 3:30 PM

Your journey begins in vibrant Miami, where you’ll board Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas and settle into your home for the week. After exploring the ship and getting acquainted with everything onboard, enjoy sailaway views as you depart the Port of Miami. Kick off the trip with a great dinner, live entertainment, and your first taste of the energy that will define the week ahead.

Day 2 - March 22nd: Fun Day at Sea

Settle into vacation mode with a full day at sea designed for all ages. Enjoy a relaxed breakfast with ocean views, then spend the day your way. Lounge by the pool, unwind in the adults-only Solarium, or join activities like trivia, bingo, or dance classes. Kids and teens can take part in dedicated youth programs while others may enjoy the spa, fitness center, or casual games like mini golf. In the evening, gather for dinner and enjoy live entertainment with something for everyone.

Day 3 - March 23rd: Fun Day at Sea

Another day at sea gives you time to explore more of the ship at your own pace. For those looking for excitement, try the waterslides, rock climbing wall, or interactive activities like laser tag. If you prefer to relax, enjoy a book, grab a coffee, or spend time in the lounges and shops. With a mix of activities and quiet spaces, there is something for every age and travel style. End the day with a great meal and another night of entertainment.

Day 4 - March 24th: San Juan, Puerto Rico

Arrive in historic San Juan, where colorful streets, rich culture, and stunning coastal views await. Wander through Old San Juan’s cobblestone streets, explore landmarks like El Morro and San Cristóbal forts, or relax at a nearby beach. Whether you’re sightseeing or sampling local cuisine, this stop offers a perfect mix of history and Caribbean charm.

Day 5 - March 25th: Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Welcome to St. Thomas, known for its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking island views. Spend the day snorkeling, relaxing on world-famous beaches like Magens Bay, or taking in panoramic views from Mountain Top. Shopping and local dining are also highlights here, making it an ideal destination for both adventure and leisure.

Day 6 - March 26th: Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

In Puerto Plata, you’ll experience a blend of natural beauty and local culture. Visit the historic city center, take a cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres for incredible views, or unwind along the golden beaches. For a more immersive experience, explore waterfalls, enjoy local flavors, or spend the day at a beach club.

Day 7 - March 27th: Last Fun Day at Sea

Your final day at sea is the perfect opportunity to revisit your favorite spots or try anything you may have missed. Whether it’s one last ride on the waterslides, a relaxing afternoon by the pool, or a special dinner to celebrate the trip, it’s a time to soak in every last moment before heading home.

Day 8 - March 28th: Debarkation

Return to Miami with unforgettable memories from your week at sea. After breakfast, you’ll disembark the ship and begin your journey home, taking with you the experiences, destinations, and moments that made this cruise truly special.

Booking Add Ons

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance will be provided through Chubb Travel Insurance. Prices for this vary on total booking cost, date of birth, and location. Children under 18 traveling with adults are included in travel insurance policies for free. Estimated pricing for travel insurance is 5-15% of total booking cost. This will be quoted out at time of reservation.

Beverage Packages and WiFi

Beverage packages and WiFi can be added to the booking after deposit has been made. Estimated pricing for beverage package and WiFi may vary due to Royal Caribbean sales. Often drink packages are anywhere from 30 to 50% off and WiFi packages are anywhere from 10 to 40% off. These can be purchased at time of booking or anytime up to 72 hours before sailing.

Shore Excursions

Shore excursions can either be booked directly with Royal Caribbean or our partner Viator. Group Shore excursions will be facilitated through Royal Caribbean. You will gain access to the Royal Caribbean portal after time of booking to see all available shore excursion options.

Meet Ben: Your Cruise Group Director

Ben Rasey is a proud UW-Whitewater alumnus with a passion for cruising and creating meaningful group experiences. Long story short, he bleeds purple. He graduated with a degree in Accounting in May 2023 and earned his Master’s in Data Analytics in December 2024. Ben stays actively involved with the university community and, in his free time, organizes large-scale pickleball events across the Midwest. His favorite cruise destination so far is Cozumel, Mexico, where he went dune buggying and mini speedboating What he loves most about cruising is the chance to truly unplug and make lasting memories with friends and family.
