This past November I did something I’ve always wanted to try. I spent almost three weeks cruising by taking three sailings in a row. I started on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas, then jumped over to Wonder of the Seas, and finished the month on the brand new Celebrity Xcel. It was busy, it was a little chaotic at times, and honestly it was one of the coolest cruise experiences I’ve had. And I learned a lot along the way.

One of the first things I realized is that there is just no way to pack for multiple weeks at sea unless you want to bring half your house with you. Laundry ended up being the hero of the whole trip. If you ever do consecutive cruises, just budget for laundry from the start. Pre purchase it online because it is cheaper, and trust me, you will be glad you did. Trying to stretch a suitcase for three cruises is a losing battle.

Something else I didn’t really think about until I was in it is how important it is to check in for all of your cruises ahead of time. With Royal and Celebrity you can check in forty five days before sailing. Doing it once is no big deal, but when you have multiple cruises lined up it is very easy to forget one. Same goes for luggage tags. Print them all before you leave home. It just keeps everything simple when you are hopping from ship to ship.

Timing between ships matters too. For a true back to back where you stay on the same ship, the process is super easy. But for side by side cruises where you get off one and walk over to the next, getting early access matters a lot more. This is where programs like The Key are worth it. For my Freedom to Wonder switch, being able to get onboard early made the whole day smoother and gave me time to get lunch, settle in, and reset for the next sailing.

I also learned that you have to pace yourself a bit. When you cruise for seven nights, you can pack every day full of activities. But when you are cruising for weeks, you start to appreciate the slower moments. I found myself hanging out in quieter spots, taking breaks, and just enjoying the flow instead of trying to do everything. By the time I boarded the Xcel, that slower pace honestly made the ship feel even better.

There are also small things that help way more than you think. Keep your carry on organized between sailings. Leave out a change of clothes so you don’t accidentally pack everything. Make sure you know how the port works so you know where you’re going for your next ship. And if you cruise often with different lines, it is fun to bounce between loyalty perks in the same trip.

The best part of doing consecutive cruises is how fresh each sailing feels. Freedom gave me that classic Royal Caribbean feel. Wonder brought all the big ship excitement. Then the Xcel completely switched it up with that modern Celebrity vibe. It felt like three separate vacations, but with the convenience of not having to fly home between them.

If you’re someone who wants a longer getaway without committing to a long single itinerary, doing back to back or side by side cruises is an awesome option. You get variety, better pricing in many cases, and a lot more flexibility to pick the ships and ports you want.

And of course, if you ever want help planning your own version of this, our team at My Cruise Booker can take care of the whole thing for you and make the transitions as easy as possible.
